Before joining the firm Martina worked for several leading consultant's offices as well as a major real estate agency, where she worked in the field of group cost accounting. Since joining DLA Piper she has been responsible for consolidation and group accounting for the CEE region. In 2009 she took the position of Finance Manager, Vienna.
Why did you join DLA Piper Weiss-Tessbach?
Having worked for international businesses before, it was extremely important to me to work for a firm that has a strong international focus. I wanted to work in an environment in which I have to keep in mind local regulations and requirements but also to the differences found in the international market. DLA Piper Weiss-Tessbach provided me this opportunity. The work involves group accounting and consolidation, together with contact with colleagues in different countries, as well as the need to respond to the different requirements for each country.
Has the work been interesting so far?
Due to the international aspect of the firm, daily work is extremely interesting. Being responsible for the CEE region means I am in daily contact with those offices regarding financial statements and leveling of accounts, be it the Bosnian, the Hungarian or the Czech subsidiary. Also the structure of an international firm with its policies and procedures enriches the scope of my duties and eases work between different offices. On the other hand it poses a particular challenge to apply international standards to a local branch. To me it is fascinating that we can work together in international teams, hold conference calls and use virtual meeting rooms in order to build projects and get to know each other in person at conferences.
