Has the work been interesting so far?
The scope of my responsibilities is very exciting and diverse. I'm working with interesting people every day, who – as entrepreneurs – appreciate my legal expertise. For these people it is even more important to get strategic advice from their lawyer. This implies that you're not only an expert in the legal profession – you also need to understand clients' businesses as well as the specific market environments in which they operate in order to give advice in an economic context.
What would be your one piece of advice to potential lawyers?
For young lawyers it is extremely important to have a sound legal education, which actually builds the foundation. Equally important is an extensive understanding of commercial contexts and a keen perception in order to understand clients' business situations as well as their specific needs. The outcome of these prerequisites is the ability to work on equal terms with management and supervisory boards on the appropriate solutions for clients. In order to achieve this, young lawyers should have a high level of commitment and interest to contribute to the success of each client.
